Our team was delighted to be able to present a cheque to Steven Guy of Sands Northern Ireland today. Pictured are Beverly Reid and Ray Hall from Johnston Campbell and Steven (centre) from Sands.
As you may be aware we have a social responsibility committee at Johnston Campbell that can offer support to those organisations that we feel need our help.
Steven explained that Sands is the stillbirth and neonatal death charity. Founded in 1978, Sands exists to reduce the number of babies dying and to ensure that anyone affected by the death of a baby receives the best possible care and support for as long as they need it wherever they are in the UK.
Steven was able to show us how they help those families that have suffered a bereavement of an unborn child. In particular, we heard about their memory box and how local supporters are involved in crocheting blankets for them.
“A memory box can help families not only come to terms with their bereavement but also provide a way of remembering their precious baby.” Steven said.
Sands works to reduce the number of babies dying and to better understand the causes of baby deaths. Sands also works with governments and other organisations to drive change and raise awareness of the issues relating to baby loss.
They provide bereavement support services at both a local and national level. These include the Sands Freephone helpline, mobile app, online community, family support packs, memory boxes and over 100 regional support groups run by trained befrienders.
Sands works to improve bereavement care available to parents and families, by offering a range of training programmes and resources and working in partnership with health care professionals, trusts and health boards.
If you want to know more about Sands and how you can get involved or you have been affected personally they can be contacted through their Helpline or directly via telephone on 0808 164 3332.
